A charming brooch featuring three ambrotype portraits set in gilt metal. A handsome young father is flanked by images of his children, a little boy and a little girl. The boy wears a sailor suit and the girl wears a pretty white dress. Both children are wearing wonderful hats. An unusual piece, historically interesting yet very personal. Circa 1890.
The ambrotype is a positive photograph printed on glass using a variant of the wet plate collodion process. Like a print on paper, it is viewed by reflected light.
Details.....The brooch measures 2.07" by 0.85". In Good Antique Condition, there is some wear to the metal. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
